I never looked at VW as sexy. It was more of a “smart” car without the eco goodness. VW came before hybrids and going green became a trend. For all intents and purposes, it was a practical choice. The brand always put fun in their cars. Chalk this up to their Bavarian roots. This heritage seems inherent to many of the German auto makers.
VW has experimented in the past. Success is not without its bumps along the way. The multi-colored production model Golf from 90s was not a favorite of mine. There was the Phaeton with a price tag that just wasn’t right at the time of its introduction. The marketing did’t help it either. Into history these and others have disappeared. They’ve become a footnote of times past.
The XL Sport raised my brows in disbelief after it's Paris debut. This is a Volkswagen? It has curves in all the right places. The wing panel doors will turn heads. The engine will make sweet music fit for a formal or a night out with friends. That music is to the tune of an 11,000 RPM redline. That’s right. Oh yes, that’s just so right.
The attraction goes beyond the surface. The XL Sport’s powerplant took some design principles from the Ducati 1199 V-Twin engine design. Another beautiful piece of machinery. One you will have to climb on board. The other, XL Sport, you will have to unlock with a limited edition purchase if you’re fortunate enough to beat any pre-sales or waiting lists.
By the way, this baby's robust 2 cylinder engine that will do 0-60 in under 6 seconds. That wasn’t a typo. Two cylinders!
