Hatch and Go

2013 Mazda 3 photo

It was foggy on the road this morning.  Head lights and tail lights on everywhere.  This was at least norm for drivers who were awake enough to turn them on.  In front of me was a Mazda 3 hatchback.  Circular ring led tail lights were beacons keeping me alert and reminding of the days when I had a hatchback.  Each car has its winning points.  This Mazda 3 had its and it was with something as simple as its visibility in low light conditions.  I’ve come to appreciate the updated safety features on many of the vehicles on the road today.  Sometimes marketing can focus too much on torque and horsepower.  Of course this all depends on the time of day and program you’re watching too.

The things I miss about my hatch back was the amount of cargo I could store in one space with the seats down.  My RSX Type S could store more than I can now with my TSX sedan.  This is partly due to the wheel wells taking too much space on the sides in the sedan, which limits the bulk of the items that would have easily fit in my sport coupe hatch back. When I looked at the Mazda 3 ahead of me, it could easily store just as much as my RSX without breaking out the cargo stats.  This was just a assumptive glance. Cargo space is winning feature for those looking for more utility out of a non-SUV ride with the fuel economy benefits thrown in.

Another thing that the hatch backs benefit from is a lower center of gravity.  This has multiple benefits.  A roof rack storage system is even easier to access on a hatch back car over a behemoth SUV.  There are just so many great things about a hatch back that keeps me coming back.  Oh I how I ponder thee.  VlogMyRide!
