One thing I like about performance vehicles is the sense of agility. You see more of the road being lower to the action. The painted lines become a blur of speed when merging onto the freeway. Overtaking vehicles is effortless and safe. There’s no wobble when veering to either side. The stiffer chassis makes avoiding hazards a non-issue. Its a different experience than driving a luxury vehicle. Performance features turns the road into more of a pleasure than a task.
The 2015 WRX STI is chalked full of features. The “Launch Edition” will only be available for 1,000 enthusiasts. This release takes some of the cosmetic notes from the Subaru tuned rally cars used in the World Rally Championships. This edition is exclusively produced in blue paint with gold BBS forged alloy wheels. A combination that will garner looks. It gleams with flash backed by substance.
A common complaint with the STI is its lack of style. Most of the design efforts were placed on the technology underneath the body. The rear spoiler actually obstructs the view of the driver. Its not as sexy as some other cars for the price that it commands. This Subaru targets a specific type of driver who can look past the status quo of the average car buyer.
The WRX STI motor has remained mostly unchanged for the past 10 years. This is an oddity given that the non-STI WRX comes with a brand new motor that has more usable power and torque on the lower end than the STI. Its also a more comfortable drive over the STI mainly because its designed more for the everyday driver in mind vs the 20 something race enthusiasts. On the other hand, STI does bring in the fun factor and it draws those who thrive from that in the driver’s seat.
